Currency
US Dollars are the easiest currency to change
with pounds sterling coming a close second.
Other hard currencies such as Euro and Yen can
also be changed in tourist areas and cities.
Tourists are warned that changing money through
unauthorised persons is not only illegal but
also involves the risk of receiving counterfeit
currency. To exchange foreign money other than
through banks or authorised money changers is an
offence. There are 24 hour exchange facilities
available at all big cites and international
airports.
Currency
The unit of currency is rupee (Rs.) One Rupee is
equal to 100 Paise. Coins of equivalent 10, 20,
25 and 50 paise and rupee. 1, 2, and 5 as well
as notes of Rs. 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500
and 1000.
Climate
India is a land of hot tropical weather with
variations from region to region.
Higher places : Shimla, Pahalgam, Gulmarg and
Manali in Western Himalayas under several feet
of snow between December and March.
Srinagar : The best
weather is from March to October.
Northern Plains :
Extreme climate in Northern Plains falling to
almost freezing at night in winter. Monsoons
between June and September.
Central India : Heavy
monsoons between July and September.
Temperatures fall at night during winter.
Western India :
November to February is most comfortable,
Monsoon rainfall between mid-June and
mid-September.
Deep South : The
most pleasant weather is from November to March.
Monsoon rains between late April and July.
